Fire destroys Le Chateau Antiques

By now you have all learned of the big fire. Many of us saw the smoke from our windows and rushed to find the antique shop at the corner of 7th and 22nd burning. This is one in a chain of unlucky events along the 21/22nd street corridor in recent years. The Big Inferno of 2000 when the Quarter burned to the ground during its construction, the tractor trailer accident on 22nd and 3rd that almost completely demolished the Latin Pollo, and the abandoned bungalow next to the gas station at the I-4 ramp, are just some that come to mind. Yesterday, the fire department suggested it may have been arson.

In the meanwhile, 22nd street remains closed as more structural tests are performed to see if any part of the building can be saved. We are extremely thankful for Councilwomen Saul-Sena and Alvarez’s efforts to save a part of our neighborhood.
